Curriculum

At Ponthir, we are working to embed the 4 Purposes identified in Professor Donaldson's Successful Futures report as we build a new curriculum for Wales. We are working to ensure that all our children are provided with rich learning opportunities to become:

  • Ambitious, capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives.
  • Enterprising, creative contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work.
  • Ethical, informed citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world.
  • Healthy, confident individuals who are ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

We are working together (pupils and staff) to develop our own exciting curriculum that reflects our school vision and values. We have called it the Aspire Curriculum.

The ASPIRE Curriculum!

A – Aspiration
S – Spirituality
P – Peace
I – Independence

R – Respect

E – Endurance

At the heart of teaching and learning in Ponthir are high aspirations for all pupils. We are working to build a sense of spirituality and self worth. We teach the importance of making peace. We aim to plan activities and learning experiences that enable pupils to develop independence. We are respectful of one another's needs and feelings, and always try to behave in a respectful manner. We are learning to endure through challenges, developing resilience and a growth mindset, and reflecting on the biblical teaching that love endures.
