Croeso i Ysgol Ponthir. We are the Criw Cymraeg, we help the school to improve their Welsh language skills. We are now aiming to achieve the Cymraeg Campus Silver Award after successfully gaining the Bronze Award last year. To get the Silver Award we have to achieve 10 targets which cover things like assemblies, outdoor activities and any opportunity to improve our use of Welsh.

We have achieved the Bronze Award! Da iawn pawb!!
Ymadrodd yr Wythnos/Phrase of the Week
Every week we choose a useful Welsh phrase to use around the school. Each time it is used Criw Cymraeg members add a Tocyn Iaith point to the house team of the pupil. The winning class takes Dewi Ddraig for the week and at the end of each half term the winning house gets a special prize.
So far we have had the following phrases;
Dim problem/No problem
Shw Mae?/How are you? (Informal)
Ga i...?/Can I have...?
Dyma ti/There you go
Beth sy'n bod?/What's wrong?
Ble mae...?/Where is...?
Pob lwc/Good luck
Wyt ti'n hoffi...?/Do you like...?
Beth ydy dy hoff...?/What is your favourite...?

Eisteddfod Ysgol Eglyws Ponthir 2020
This year's Eisteddfod saw a return of the fabulous Caffi Cwtsh where our families joined us for a celebration of Welsh language and culture.
Mr Lewis joined us as a special guest judge. He just wanted to eat all the Welsh cakes!
This year's bard was Gwen. Gwen wrote a fantastic poem to win the crown. She received a lovely letter and poem from last year's bard, Sophia. Diolch yn fawr!
Eisteddfod Ysgol Eglyws Ponthir 2019
Dw i'n caru Eisteddfod achos mae'n hwyl!
In our Eisteddfod we competed in different competitions including handwriting, creative artwork, modelling, singing, baking, rapping, music, photography and the crowning of the Bard. We had places; first, second and third with two points for third, three points for second and five points for first.
Many pupils won awards and added points for their house. We have three houses Tŷ Coch, Tŷ Gwyrdd and Tŷ Glas. This year Tŷ Gwyrdd came to victory with 340 points with Tŷ Coch in second with 244 points, closely followed by Tŷ Glas with 213 points.
This year Sophia took the title of the Bard with her winning narrative poem about the creation of the Welsh flag. Ffion was closely behind her in second place and Fraser and Max in third. All our entries this year were greatly appreciated by the Criw Cymraeg and we have some talented pupils who are willing to try hard to achieve success.
Da iawn pawb!
We launched a competition for a mascot to represent Criw Cymraeg across the school. Then, we chose the winner from an array of fabulous designs.
And the winner is....
